Bake a cake! Or a pie! 

WAYNE COUNTY, PA — Entries are now being accepted for the 2023 Wayne County Fair baking contests. Amateur bakers can enter the Homemade Chocolate Cake contest, the Incredible Angel Food Cake contest, the Blue Ribbon Apple Pie contest and the PA Preferred Junior baking contest. 

Entry forms must be submitted by Saturday, July 1. Entry day will take place on Wednesday, August 2.

First-place winners will be eligible to compete at the PA Farm Show in January 2024.

The rules and entry forms can be found in the Wayne County Fair Premium book or online at waynecountyfair.com under Premium Books.

WSPL board meets

JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — The Board of Trustees of the Western Sullivan Public Library will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, June 12 at the Jeffersonville Branch. The library asks that attendees use the back entrance.

Beautiful places are healthy places

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Sullivan 180 has announced its 2023 Beatification Program grant recipients. 

The program offers grants of up to $2,500 for school beautification and care of public spaces, gardens, building landscaping and park creation. Several projects will also have a paid seasonal intern to support the work.

“Beautification adds to the health of communities and quality of life of residents,” said Carmela Hugel, Sullivan 180 beautification program manager. “These projects bring people together and help to foster connections. Cared-for communities also add to a sense of safety and well-being.” 

The 2023 recipients of beautification grants and the programs for which they received the funds are:

Callicoon Business Association: Community Blooms in Callicoon

Callicoon Depot, Inc.: Renewal and expansion of Callicoon Depot Plaza plantings

Children’s Home of Wyoming Conference: Pizza and sign garden

Cochecton Volunteer Ambulance: Sensory garden

Delaware Valley Opera: Welcome garden

Great Barryville Chamber of Commerce: Community welcome areas

Hurleyville Fire Department: New sign garden

Hurleyville Sullivan First: Enhancement on Main

Hurleyville United Methodist Church: Messy Church garden

Livingston Manor Renaissance: Blooming On and On

Lumberland Parks and Recreation: Lumberland Pride town-wide beautification

Tri-Valley Central School District: Entrance beautification

White Sulphur Springs Sullivan First: Smile for a Mile
