LIBERTY, NY — On Sept. 24, Sheriff’s Deputies were called to 165 Airport Road in Liberty to report abandoned dogs.
At the location, deputies found a German Shepherd and two puppies without food and water. The dogs appeared to be severely dehydrated.
The Sheriff’s Office contacted Town of Liberty Constable Joanne Gerow who responded to the scene and took custody of the animals.
The ensuing investigation revealed that the occupants, Kristina Rodrigues and Brandon Gonzalez had moved out of the residence several days before and left the animals behind, unattended. Deputies arrested Rodrigues at a residence in Loch Sheldrake on Sept. 25.
She was charged with animal neglect and abandonment and issued an appearance ticket for Town of Liberty court. She was then turned over to the state police in Wurtsboro on an outstanding warrant. Deputies are asking for the public’s help in locating the second suspect Brandon Gonzalez. He is wanted on animal cruelty charges in connection with this case as well as a warrant for DWI. Citizens with information can call 845-794-7100 or the Sheriff’s Confidential TIPS Line at 845-807-0158.
