WMH marks National Social Work Month

HONESDALE, PA — Wayne Memorial Hospital (WMH) recently celebrated National Social Work Month. Social workers and what they do for the community are commemorated each year in March.

The hospital “boasts a very competent and compassionate staff of social workers who play an important role in patients’ lives,” staff members said. Hospital social workers “assess the physical, social, emotional and environmental needs of patients and their families and identify services and programs to ensure a safe, caring transition to the next setting after discharge, whether it be home, assisted living or some other option.”

“Empowering Social Workers” was the theme of Social Work Month 2024. This “casts a light on what social workers do and the importance of helping them to help others—whether it be with simple activities of daily living or drug addiction or a mental health crisis,” WMH staff said.

In March this year, Wayne Memorial social workers launched a food drive, collecting nonperishable and personal care items for those who need it most.
