MONTICELLO POLICE DEPARTMENT FELONY ARREST PRESS RELEASE

Two men arrested following investigation of the shooting of 3 persons in the Village of Monticello

MONTICELLO, NY  — Members of the Monticello Police Department, in conjunction with the New York State Police, Sullivan County District Attorney Office and the City of Farmers Branch, Texas Police Department, arrested Khallid Sanders, age 22, of Monticello and Kessey Charles, age 20, of Dallas, Texas on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.

Sanders and Charles were arrested on Arrest Warrants from the Village of Monticello Justice Court charging them each with 3 counts of Assault in the 1st degree, Criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree, Criminal use of a firearm in the 1st degree and Reckless Endangerment in the 1st degree.

On Friday, May 5th, 2023, at 10:05 PM, Monticello Police responded to 911 reports of shots fired at 15 Holmes street in the Village of Monticello. Officers found 3 persons shot at the scene, a 27 year-old male, a 20 year-old female and a 15 month-old male infant. Multiple rounds had been intentionally fired from the outside and into the residence.

A joint investigation by Monticello Police and New York State Police developed Sanders and Charles as the perpetrators and were able to subsequently locate, and arrest them in the City of Farmers Branch, Texas. Sanders and Charles are both currently being held in the Dallas County Jail in Dallas, Texas, awaiting extradition back to New York.

The filing of an accusatory instrument is merely an accusation and every person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
