MONTICELLO, NY — Members of the Monticello Police arrested three Monticello men following an investigation of a burglary that occurred at the “NY DELI and Grill” located at 17 Liberty Street in the Village of Monticello.

Arrested were the following persons:

Leonard Jacobs, age 41, was charged with 3 counts of Burglary in the 3rd degree, Criminal mischief in the 3rd degree and Grand larceny in the 3rd degree.

Joshua Carree, age 29, was charged with 3 counts of Burglary in the 3rd degree and Grand larceny in the 3rd degree.

David Ward, age 59, was charged with 1 count of Burglary in the 3rd degree and Grand larceny in the 3rd degree.

An investigation by Monticello Police revealed that on Saturday, June 10, at 11:37 p.m.  Jacobs used a piece of asphalt to break the front door window of the store. Jacobs, Carree and Ward then acted in concert to enter the store and to steal items from within. Jacobs and Carree then returned an additional 2 times over a 90-minute period to steal more items. The proceeds taken during the burglary included $2600 in items and $500 in US currency. The defendants were identified through video surveillance from the store and surrounding businesses.

Ward and Jacobs were arrested on Sunday, June 18.  Carree was arrested on Tuesday, June 20.  All of the defendants were arraigned in the Village of Monticello Justice Court. Due to NYS bail reform guidelines, Jacobs and Carree were released on their own recognizance. Ward was remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail due to having seven prior felony convictions.

The filing of an accusatory instrument is merely an accusation and every person arrested is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Leonard Jacobs, Joshua Carree, David Ward, Village of Monticello Police Department
