GRAHAMSVILLE, NY — The Neversink History Afternoon introduces people to the story of the town.

It takes place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 25 at the Time and the Valleys Museum on State Route 55.  Admission to the program is free.

Come down to browse through Town of Neversink photos, records, stories and artifacts from our archives and learn about the town’s history.

Museum archivists Lynn Priebe, Wanda Terwilliger, Beverly Muthig and Neversink Historian Carol Smythe will be on hand to answer questions.

Attendees are welcome to bring personal collections of postcards and photos to share.

At 2 p.m., there will be a special program on Otto Hillig and his photographs of Sullivan County.

Hillig (1874 – 1954) was a photographer who recorded much of Sullivan County in pictures. Hillig Studio in Liberty became an iconic symbol of Hillig the photographer.

The museum has several collections of Hillig photos and postcards, including the Virginia Caldwell Bishop collection, the Clara Denman/Riley Currey collection and the Addy/Coombe collection.

Hillig photos are a rare glimpse back into Sullivan County’s past.

Here’s more about Hillig: Born in Germany in 1874, Otto Hillig was knighted in Denmark, and with his pilot made a pioneer plane flight across the Atlantic.  Hillig built a castle in Sullivan County and was the third person in the county to own an automobile.
