LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — Due to the significant changes in the health care system, environment and governmental policies, members of the Cochecton Volunteer Ambulance Corps (CVAC) will hold a series of events to improve community public health and provide wellness education. 

At the first, members of the corps will discuss steps to a healthier lifestyle and the needs of the community; the meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 18 at the ambulance corps’ building.

The goal of the new initiative “is to help foster good, individual health practices for a healthier tomorrow, for individuals and families in our community and generations to come,” a member said.

Monthly events, conducted by CVAC, will address and encourage good health practices and healthy habits, provide blood pressure and blood sugar monitoring, offer a regular exercise program, focus on nutrition, increase socialization and healthy mental health practices—and that’s just a few.

Future meetings will be held at 6 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month.

In addition, CVAC will host a health fair this summer, and the group is in the planning stages of CVAC’s, first annual walkathon, to be held in the fall.

Youth, individual adults and families are welcome. Food and beverages will be provided, and there will be giveaways.  Donations are appreciated and all proceeds go to the Cochecton Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
