Stalking / False reports / Harassment arrest

HONESDALE, PA — Today, Wayne County District Attorney A.G. Howell announced the arrest of Amie L. Kellogg, age 39, of Hamlin. Kellogg was charged with one count of Stalking, graded as a misdemeanor 1st degree, three counts of False Reports, two counts graded as a misdemeanor 2nd degree and one count graded as a misdemeanor 3rd degree and three counts of Harassment, graded as a misdemeanor 3rd degree.

According to the criminal complaint affidavit of probable cause filed by Wayne County Detective Michael McMorrow, this investigation began on April 10, 2023, when a male victim reported to the Wayne County Detectives that he and his girlfriend, identified as the defendant Amie Kellogg, were receiving harassing and threatening text messages from numerous unknown phone numbers. The victim also told detectives that he was receiving calls from blocked and private numbers.

The victim initially believed that the messages may be related to a former co-worker, who had left on bad terms. Some of the text messages that the victim received mentioned Kellogg and it initially appeared that whoever was sending the messages appeared to be stalking her as well. One of the text messages mentioned how attractive Kellogg was and how it would be fun to sexually assault her.  In other text messages received by the victim, the unknown sender would refer to him by using sexually derogative words and threatened to physically assault him.

Copies of the text messages were turned over to the Wayne County Detectives for review.

Detectives interviewed the victim’s former co-worker and several other people that Kellogg named as being possibly involved, and they were all eliminated as suspects.

One of the messages that was sent to the victim contained a photograph of the front of the business that Kellogg owns. The victim noticed that in the photograph there was a reflection on the glass store front of the person taking the photograph. The victim identified the person taking the photograph as Kellogg.

After serving search warrants on Kellogg’s electronic devices, Detectives were able to determine that Kellogg herself was actually responsible for sending the first several text messages to the victim, her boyfriend.

Kellogg turned herself into Magisterial District Judge Carney on August 16. A preliminary arraignment was conducted and Kellogg was released on $25,000 unsecured bail. Her next court appearance is scheduled for August 23,  at 9 a.m.

*The filing of criminal charges is not evidence of guilt but simply a description of the charge made by the Commonwealth against a defendant. A charged Defendant is presumed innocent until a jury returns a unanimous finding that the Commonwealth has proven the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt or until the defendant enters a guilty plea to the charges.
