REGION — As you plot your shopping excursions, don’t forget the artisan markets.

The small-scale shopping possibilities (they might be called makers’ markets or holiday markets) present you with booths filled with locally produced wonders: jewelry, condiments, artwork, handmade children’s toys and much, much more.

Try these markets on for size.

Saturday, December 2

The Lackawaxen Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary will hold its annual craft fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the firehouse. It’s a chance to immerse yourself in a festive atmosphere filled with unique, handcrafted treasures from local artisans, the auxiliary wrote in the Lackawaxen Township newsletter. “Find the perfect holiday decorations and gifts while supporting our community.”

Visit the Lackawaxen Township Fire Department on Facebook.

Liberty, NY

Hawley, PA

Hawley’s Winterfest is its own spectacular event, held from Friday, December 8 to Sunday, December 10,  but shoppers have gift-buying opportunities too.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hawley Hub, you can choose from many unique and great gift ideas from over a dozen local makers.

Find the Hub at 318 Main Ave.

But that’s not all—at the Hawley Silk Mill, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., you’ll find the Artisan Fair, a marketplace of juried artisan and fine crafted goods hosted by Art on the Edge.

The Silk Mill is located at 8 Silk Mill Dr.

Sunday, December 10

Honesdale, PA

Shopping's hungry work, but The Cooperage has you covered at the Holiday Artisans' Market.
Shopping's hungry work, but The Cooperage has you covered at the Holiday Artisans' Market.

The Cooperage Project will hold its 12th annual Holiday Artisans’ Market from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The market showcases the work of the Upper Delaware’s many talented artisans; you’ll find soaps and treats, fabric joys and art.

It’s a chance to not only purchase unique and delightful gifts for friends and family (and yourself) but is a way to support local makers.

There’s really nothing like being able to talk to the person who crafted the item you’re buying. It’s a far cry from items made far away by someone you will never meet.

Makers present include Streamside Maple, No Ennui, Jolie B. Plush, Mount Pleasant Herbary, WanderLost MetalWorks, Anthill Farm Agroforestry and more. (Visit thecooperageproject.org for details.)

The Mustard Seed Café will be selling fresh farm-to-table foods too. Take a break, eat something delicious, and then carry on shopping.

Meanwhile, the holiday edition of the Young Artisans’ Market has piggybacked onto the bigger one.

Young makers aged 18 and younger can sell their handmade goods in the new youth building, directly behind The Cooperage.

And don’t forget to return to Hawley for Winterfest and the markets there. It’s a final day of celebration—the Hawley Hub will continue its holiday artisan and craft market from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 318 Main Ave., and the Silk Mill will hold its Winterfest artisan fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 8 Silk Mill Dr.

Saturday and Sunday, December 16 and 17

If you happen to venture up that way, Sullivan County’s Farmhouse Project is holding a holiday makers’ market at the Senate Garage, a 1920s industrial-yet-elegant venue. You’ll find over 60 artisans with an assortment of treasures, along with local eats and beverages.

Times are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The Senate Garage is located at 4 N. Front St.
