Roebling’s Aqueduct marks 175 years; sponsors needed

LACKAWAXEN, PA — The first crossing of the Roebling Aqueduct over the Lackawaxen and Delaware rivers occurred on April 26, 1849. 

A celebration of the 175th anniversary will take place on Saturday, April 27 at the aqueduct.

Sponsorship opportunities are available through Wednesday, March 20. 

The schedule of events will include a walking tour of the National Park Service’s Roebling’s Delaware Aqueduct with professor and historian Paul C. King; a buffet lunch featuring canal-era recipes at the New Inn at Lackawaxen; talks by Sullivan County Historian John Conway, by Delaware & Hudson Transportation Heritage Council president Bill Merchant and by King; canal songs by Dan Engvaldsen; and exhibits.

Sponsorships are sought to show support for this unique, historic event and help defray the costs of the celebration, available at the following incentive levels:

Friend—$10-$100, Sponsor—$101-$200, Patron—$300-$500, and Angel—$500 and up.

Checks can be made payable to D&HTHC; include a notation for 175th Anniversary and mail to Laurie Ramie, D&HTHC Secretary, Upper Delaware Council, PO Box 192, Narrowsburg, NY 12764.
