SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY

Town of Rockland

Elizabeth Williams is running for council member as a write-in in the Town of Rockland, Sullivan County. There are two open seats for town council and the two other candidates, Andrew C. McRell and Christine N. Routledge, are both Democrats and are on the ballot.

Elizabeth Williams

My name is Elizabeth Williams, and I am running as a write-in candidate for Town of Rockland Town Council.

I am a local small business owner and the mother of three LMCS Wildcats. I grew up spending much of my time in the Town of Rockland and over the last three-plus decades, I have witnessed it change and grow dramatically.

As an invested community member, I care deeply about this town, its residents, and its future. I believe in bringing people together to produce positive change and solve issues that impact us all. I hope to strengthen the connections between those who are new to the area and those who have been here for generations to find inclusive and economically stable solutions that can benefit us all and leave us with time to celebrate our achievements and growth.

I believe that as an elected council person, it is my job to reach out and listen to all of the voices that make up our community and to strive to make those voices heard and responded to. I’m motivated, caring, and eager to listen and learn. I promise to ensure the Town of Rockland continues to thrive as a wonderful community, where opportunities abound, small-town charm endures, and generations thrive. I humbly ask for your vote on November 7 to help write the next chapter of our story together.

Andrew C. McRell (D)

Christine N. Routledge (D)

Town of Fallsburg

Michael Bensimon, running on the Democrat, Working Families and Sullivan United lines, will run against Katherine J. Rappaport, Republican, for Fallsburg Town Supervisor.

Fallsburg Town Supervisor

Michael Bensimon (D)(Working Families) (Sullivan United)

I am running for Fallsburg Town Supervisor because I am deeply committed to our community’s well-being and prosperity. As a parent with four children in the Fallsburg school district, I am personally invested in creating a better future for our town.

With a strong background in government management, financial oversight and extensive experience in public service, I believe I can bring effective leadership, transparency and accountability to the role of Town Supervisor.

My platform centers on three key pillars:

Smart Sustainable Growth: We face critical infrastructure needs and traffic congestion. I will work on cost-effective solutions that always seek to protect our town’s beauty and natural resources.

Economic Development: Supporting entrepreneurship and attracting new businesses is essential. We need to provide resources for aspiring business owners to spur economic growth.

Professional and Ethical Governance: I will seek to close ethical loopholes in the town code, and institute effective internal controls ensuring transparency and accountability. I will also work to foster a professional and experienced workforce that provides effective public services.

Aging infrastructure is a significant long-term issue in Fallsburg. Our water/sewer systems need upgrading, and traffic congestion hinders daily life. We must invest in sustainable solutions, ensuring our town remains a beautiful and functional place to live. I will work to address these challenges, secure necessary state/federal funding, and ensure we collaborate with residents along the way.

Together, we can build a Fallsburg that works for everyone, where growth is smart, opportunities abound, and our town’s natural beauty thrives.

Katherine J. Rappaport (R)

Town of Liberty

Town Council

The Town of Liberty Town Council has three candidates but only two open seats. Simmie Williams III is running on the Democratic ticket against Vincent J. McPhillips and Dean R. Farrand, who are both running on the Republican and Conservative ticket.

Simmie Williams III (D)

My name is Simmie Williams III, and I am a new resident in the Village of Liberty and a lifelong resident of Sullivan County.

I am running for Liberty Town Council because I believe my journey has left an indelible mark in the communities I’ve lived and worked in. I believe that my 32 years in law enforcement paved the way for greater diversity and inclusion in law enforcement. Serving on various boards of education in the County reflects the passion I have for nurturing the next generation and ensuring their success. Being engaged in various facets of community service and volunteering for several organizations gives me a unique perspective on all the issues that several Towns face today.

Throughout my life, I have always believed in family, faith and fairness. My commitment to public safety and unwavering dedication to serving and protecting my fellow residents has earned the respect and admiration of many.

I proudly practice my faith as Deacon at the First Baptist Church of South Fallsburg, where my spiritual leadership and involvement in the Church community highlight my commitment to good, which serves as the foundation of who I am. If elected I will continue to inspire positive change.

Vincent J. McPhillips (R)(C)

Dean R. Farrand (R)(C)

Town of Neversink

Town Council

Neversink’s town council race has two open seats and three candidates: Diana K. Weiner, Democrat; Nicole Gorr, Republican and Conservative; and James Schmidt, Republican.

Diana K. Weiner (D)

Throughout my career, I have volunteered, promoted and celebrated community enhancement programs across America, advising, creating and developing communities folks are proud to live in.

As a Trustee for Time and the Valleys Museum and a judge for America in Bloom, I have a clear vision for Neversink’s future. We can preserve our past as we look to a future that can hold a walkable connection from the school to the ballpark and library, provide access to transportation, accelerate full broadband service, attract year-round local businesses, and recreate a seasonal Farmers Market for local access to fresh food and the SNAP program.

I built a Master Gardener Volunteer Program for Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County. I was Superintendent of Parks and Grounds for Mohonk Mountain House and responsible for 2,200 acres. I developed a volunteer program at the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society, recreated a four-ecosystem public park for Friends of High School Park, and helped volunteers, businesses and municipalities improve their towns at Sullivan Renaissance.

I own Story’s Neversink Plant Company with my husband John Story, where we raise and sell rare succulents and interesting plants. For the past several years I have served as Vice Chair of the Town of Neversink Democratic Committee.

Let’s build a better town by working together on a progressive future model while keeping our “small town” feel.

I humbly ask for your vote on Election Day.

Nicole Gorr (R) (C)

James Schmidt (R)
