Pike veterans office moves to Shohola

SHOHOLA, PA — The Pike County Veterans Affairs Office has moved to a new location at the Shohola Business Center, 835 Rte. 6, Unit 3.

The new office is located next door to the Pike County Workforce Development Agency. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Two accredited Veterans Service Officers— Jesiah Schrader, director, and Karen Olson, deputy director—are available to assist Pike County’s nearly 4,000 veterans with navigating benefits processes. Services provided by the office include county, state and federal benefits, including real estate tax exemption programs, the Pike County Veterans Discount Card, cemetery flags, filing of claims such as disability, service-connected deaths, dependent and indemnification, pensions, grants and assistance with homelessness.

“Our intent with the new facility at the Shohola Business Center is to create a Veterans’ hub of information and resources within Pike County,” said Schrader.

County Commissioner Matt Osterberg said the office has expanded its services over the past year. “With the recent growth of the office, this move will provide additional opportunities to support our veterans,” he said.

Aiding the transition were the county’s maintenance team and donations from Stone Furniture in Scranton and VetStock, a local nonprofit organization.

The office plans to hold a grand opening later this year to celebrate the relocation. Additional details will be provided as they become available.

For more information on the Pike County Veterans Affairs Office services, email Schrader and Olson at jschrader@pikepa.org or kolson@pikepa.org, or call 570/296-3563 to schedule an appointment.

Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred so that each client receives personal attention.
