Vogue dance workshop

HURLEYVILLE, NY — On Friday, March 13 from 6 to 8 p.m., the Hurleyville Arts Centre is hosting the Hetrick-Martin Institute to present another two-hour workshop that will introduce participants to the elements of vogue dance, including spins, dips, floor work, runway and more.

Rhythm and rhyme of poetry

HONESDALE, PA — On Friday, March 13, The Cooperage is hosting a celebration of the rhythm and rhyme of words with and without music. In partnership with Authors Alliance, The Cooperage invites local musicians, songwriters, poets and performers to the stage. The night will be filled with talents such as Michelle Oram, poet and songwriter, Joanne and Dan Brinkerhoff of the band Poison Love, and other local musicians such as Stephen Faubel, Bob Wilson and Owen Walsh, to name a few.

John Conway book signings

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Twice before, collections of John Conway’s Retrospect columns about Sullivan County history have been gathered together in book form: “Retrospect” was published in 1996 and “Remembering the Sullivan County Catskills” in 2008. Now comes “In Further Retrospect,” the biggest and best collection yet.

The author will travel the county in the upcoming weeks to speak about his book and to sign copies. On Thursday, March 12 at 6 p.m., Conway will be at the E.B. Crawford Library in Monticello. On Wednesday, March 18 at 6 p.m., he will be at the Sullivan County Museum in Hurleyville.

Tenth annual Rock Hill St. Patrick’s Day parade

ROCK HILL, NY — The Rock Hill Business and Community Association and the Rock Hill Fire Department are throwing the 10th annual Rock Hill St. Patrick’s Day parade on Saturday, March 14 at 2 p.m. 

This year’s parade will feature bagpipers, the Walker Valley Marching Band, Firefighter McPadden Pipes and Drums of the Goshen Emerald Society, local ambulance, fire and police departments, community marchers, antique cars, horses, veterans and more.

Wacky science adventures

DINGMANS FERRY, PA — On Saturday, March 14 from 1 to 3 p.m., the Pocono Environmental Education Center is hosting an afternoon of experiments. All ages are welcome to join to create your own slime, attempt to launch a rocket into space and more.

Seeking second Sullivan County Poet Laureate

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — The Sullivan County Library Alliance is seeking a Poet Laureate to promote the “Spirit of Sullivan County.” 

To be eligible, applicants must reside in Sullivan County (full or part-time), have a body of literary work and be available for a one-year appointment. The Poet Laureate will help increase public appreciation of the reading and writing of poetry for children and adults in Sullivan County. Benefits include exposure of original work and a stipend. 

The deadline for applications is Tuesday, March 31.

WCAA opens new gallery

HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Arts Alliance (WCAA) announced the opening of the WCAA Main Street Gallery located on the second floor of 959 Main St. 

WCAA Main Street Gallery will be a venue for monthly juried solo, group, member and themed shows with opening receptions on Second Saturdays. The Gallery will be open to the public from Thursday to Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning this Saturday, March 14, with the premiere of “The Founders Show.” An opening night reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m.

 “The Founders Show” will celebrate WCAA’s six original members: Pauline and Yanni Glykokokalos, Joan Hill, Robert Lander, Anne Nocera and Katrin Tralongo who banded together in 2002 to create the first Wayne County Artist’s Studio Tour. It will feature their art as well as historical information about the early years of the organization which has grown to 216 members.

‘Backyard Brooklyn,’ the photography of Woody Goldberg

NARROWSBURG, NY — On Saturday, March 14, the Narrowsburg Union Digital Gallery will present the pictures of Woody Goldberg. He calls this collection of photos “Backyard Brooklyn.” These lush images will help conjure-up senses of the good-old outdoors and feelings of the coming spring. 

An opening reception will take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. 

Woody had a long career as a counselor with the New York City Department of Homeless Services. His agency provides services to the homeless, and its ultimate aim is to help folks overcome homelessness. 

This show will present most of his 246 high-definition images. And the union’s 16-foot media wall will present 30 images from six of Woody’s Brooklyn backyard settings.

‘Oh deer,’ art exhibit featuring the beauty and nuisance of deer

NARROWSBURG, NY — On Saturday, March 14, the Narrowsburg Union will present “Oh Deer,” an exhibition of works with deer as the subject matter. The opening reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m., and the exhibit will be on display through Saturday, April 25.
