SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — More than a month since Election Day, Sullivan County’s official results are now available. While voters in the county came out in strong numbers in support of President Donald Trump and Republican candidate for New York State Senate Mike Martucci, other Democratic candidates like Rep. Antonio Delgado and acting District Attorney Meagan Galligan garnered the most votes in their races.

After the polls closed on November 3, Sullivan County’s Board of Elections work was far from complete. The county still had a significant number of absentee ballots to count, a job that was delayed due to legal moves by candidates. Martucci requested that absentee votes be impounded, and Galligan filed a show cause and restraining order that prohibited the certification of election results until a hearing or decision by the courts.
Across New York’s 42nd Senate District, Martucci won significantly in Delaware County, where he garnered about 63 percent of the vote, and by a slimmer margin in Ulster County where he got 51.5 percent. Orange County was the only in the district to go blue this year, with 60 percent of voters casting ballots for Metzger.
In the 19th Congressional District, Delgado won 54.5 percent of the overall vote, 11.6 percent more than Van De Water. Delgado won Ulster, Dutchess, Rensselaer, Columbia, Sullivan and Otsego counties. Van De Water took Greene, Delaware, Schoharie, Montgomery and Broome counties.
