BLOOMING GROVE, PA — Troop R of the Pennsylvania State Police saw 43 crashes over five days during the Thanksgiving holiday.
The crashes, one of them alcohol-related, resulted in 13 injuries, according to the police’s holiday recap. Troop R includes the barracks in Blooming Grove, Pike County; Honesdale, Wayne County; Gibson, Susquehanna County; and Dunmore, Lackawanna County.
There were no fatalities locally. But statewide, the police report that fatalities increased this year over last. Four fatal crashes resulted in four people killed in Pennsylvania over the five-day holiday this year, as compared to one person killed in a single fatal crash during the same period last year.
Alcohol-related crashes rose sharply statement this year. The police report giving 73 citations for drunk driving this year compared to 48 last year.
Troop R recorded the following enforcement actions over Thanksgiving: 18 tickets for driving under the influence, 376 for speeding, 1 for no child seat, 33 for no seatbelt, 15 seatbelt warnings, 942 other citations, and 13 criminal arrests.
