Monticello, Sullivan County get millions for community projects

MONTICELLO, NY — U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro (R-19) announced that millions in federal funding are coming to New York’s 19th Congressional District.

Local projects to benefit from the funding include:

  • $2 million is for water treatment plant improvements in the Village of Monticello. It will build a new water treatment plant with all new treatment units, sodium hypochlorite (commonly known as bleach) instead of gas chlorine for disinfection, all new distribution pumps, and a new clear well.
  • $1 million is for the infrastructure project on Sullivan County’s Old Route 17 corridor. The money will advance upgrades to fix water quality problems. It will also extend and upgrade the water distribution line and connect it to the Commercial Industrial Zone on Old Route 17 in Liberty.

Molinaro said his district is getting $27.6 million in all.

“I’m proud to report that $27.6 million is now coming back to Upstate New York for community development projects that will improve roadways and water infrastructure, provide housing to veterans, expand mental healthcare, and help EMS agencies upgrade equipment and facilities,” he said. “From the start, I’ve been arguing for more give and take, and more bipartisanship in government funding negotiations....This bill is smart, fiscally sensible, and doesn’t include any of the deep cuts or restrictions that I stood against.”
