Wayne County District Attorney A.G. Howell announced the arrest of Julian Gerard Hyland, 31, of Thompson, PA.  Hyland is charged with one count of Theft of a Motor Vehicle, six counts of Theft from a Motor Vehicle, seven counts of Loitering and Prowling.  A copy of the criminal complaint is enclosed with this press release.

On October 22, 2021, at about 5:00 a.m., PSP Gibson received a report of a single motor vehicle accident in Susquehanna County.  The operator of the vehicle left the scene.  The registered owner of the vehicle is from Honesdale PA.

On this same day, in the same area where the vehicle was stolen, PSP Honesdale and Honesdale Borough Police Department received several additional reports that during the night more vehicles had been entered and items taken from the vehicles.  Video surveillance of the area in Honesdale identified an individual prowling around houses from approximately 1:00 to 2:20 a.m. on October 22, 2021.

The defendant was identified in video surveillance and interviews of employees at a tavern in the same area as the stolen vehicle in Honesdale earlier that evening.

After the approval of a search warrant for Defendant’s cell phone, it was discovered the defendant was in the area of the crashed vehicle at the time of the crash.

The defendant is being held in the Wayne County Correctional Facility.  Magisterial District Judge set bail at $100,000.  A central court date is set for June 8.
