Lavapalooza was a success

LAVA, NY — On August 5, Growing Older Together sponsored a 1950s rockabilly-style carnival and picnic fundraiser for the whole family. Over 180 people attended the event, which was held in a meadow at Blue Hills Farm.

The party was held under a big tent, with great food, a midway with games and live music of the era by Philadelphia-based band Mighty Joe Castro and the Gravaman. It was designed to break the mold of senior-focused fundraisers by creating an event that appeals to the whole community—youth, families and seniors.

Lavapalooza will become an annual “must attend” event on the community calendar.

Growing Older Together serves people aged 60 and older in Wayne County, PA, western Sullivan County and adjacent areas. It focuses on giving seniors the practical means and social connections to help them stay in their homes as long as possible. Its team of volunteers “do the tasks you might ask of a friend or neighbor,” the website says.
