MONTICELLO, NY — Members of the Monticello Police in conjunction with the Village of Liberty Police arrested a 16-year-old juvenile male on Wednesday, September 6. The juvenile was charged with the felonies of Assault in the 1st degree, Criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree and Criminal use of a firearm in the 1st degree. The juvenile was arrested following an investigation into the July 15, 2023 shooting of a 27-year-old Monticello woman that occurred at the Sleepy Hollow apartment complex at Terry Lane in the Village of Monticello.

The juvenile was observed by Village of Liberty Police Officers on Wednesday in the area of Albion Street in the Village of Liberty and he was arrested following a short foot pursuit. He was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Justice Court before Justice Troy Johnstone and remanded to a secure youth detention facility on $300,000.00 cash bail, $750,000.00 bail bond and $1,000,000.00 secured insurance bond pending further court action.

Additionally assisting Monticello Police in the investigation were the NYSP, Sullivan County Sheriff's Office and the Sullivan County District Attorney's Office.

The filing of an accusatory instrument is merely an accusation and every person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
