SWAN LAKE, NY — On Friday July, 21, 2023 the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office was called to the Satmar Boys camp at the site of the former Stevensville Hotel on Briscoe Road in Swan Lake.

At the location residents reported a burglary that had occurred early that morning. Deputies reviewed video from the security system and observed a male suspect enter the building at about 4:30 am and steal a box of raw chicken that was thawing in the kitchen. The suspect then found a set of keys and drove off in a 2020 Honda Odyssey. While on patrol later in the day, deputies spotted a male subject on Birch Lane in Swan Lake who matched the description of the suspect seen on the video surveillance from the camp.

Further investigation revealed that the male subject was indeed the perpetrator from the early morning burglary. Deputies arrested 58 year old Jimmy Pagan of Swan Lake. Deputies found the Honda Odyssey in a field behind 13 Birch Lane. The vehicle’s license plates had been removed. The deputies were even able to recover the box of chicken from the suspect’s residence. Pagan was charged with the felonies of Burglary and Grand Larceny as well as the misdemeanor of petit larceny. He was arraigned in the Town of Neversink court before judge Brent Gotsch and sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $40,000 bail. The defendant is due back in court in the Town of Liberty on Tuesday July 25, 2023 at 10:00 am.
