SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY  — Hikers were rescued in two incidents in Sullivan County during October.

On Oct. 13 the Summitville Fire Department reported a hiker who was dizzy and vomiting on a trail in Roosa Gap State Forest in the town of Mamakating. Summitville Fire and Mamakating EMS secured the 50-year-old from Pennsylvania in a litter. Ranger Timothy Schweider assisted with the carry-out, which included a rope system for steep areas with loose terrain. Mamakating EMS transported the hiker to the hospital.

On Oct. 25 at 5 p.m., Schweider overheard a radio call for an injured hiker at the Neversink River Unique Area. Schweider reached the 25-year-old from New Jersey and determined she was showing signs of low blood sugar. After providing oral glucose and some food, Schweider helped walk the hiker out of the woods with the assistance of members of Rock Hill Fire Department.
