MONTICELLO, NY — District Attorney Meagan Galligan announced the sentencing of Carlos Colon, 31, of Livingston Manor, to an aggregate term of 15 years in prison plus 5 years of post-release supervision for his possession with intent to sell fentanyl and heroin in Sullivan County.

Extensive police investigation following Colon’s identification as a supplier of heroin and fentanyl ultimately resulted in the execution of search warrants led by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office on May 26, 2021, in Jeffersonville and Colchester. That day, police arrested Colon and seized approximately seven ounces of heroin and fentanyl tied to him, as well as cash and other evidence.

On Friday, January 14, county court judge E. Danielle Jose-Decker finalized Colon’s sentences on his guilty pleas to felony Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Second and Third Degrees. In addition to ordering him to serve 15 years in prison, the court ordered Colon to forfeit more than $14,000 seized by police who executed the search warrants.

Galligan said, “Carlos Colon preyed upon addiction for his own profit, distributing one of the most dangerous substances in the world into our community for his own financial gain. This investigation benefitted not only from the joint commitment of our local police departments, sheriff’s office and state police to keeping our county safe, but also from the support of concerned residents of our county who reached out with information and encouragement. The sentence recommended by my office and imposed by the court underscores our continuing message that drug distribution in Sullivan County will not be tolerated.”

Galligan thanked Sheriff Mike Schiff’s office for investing substantial time and resources in this case and commended all of the police members of this investigation for their commitment to this prosecution, which was handled by assistant district attorney Lisa Bondarenka.
