Car flips into stream at the the end of Erie Avenue

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on May 20, a 2003 Blue Ford Ranger, with NY plates traveled down Erie Avenue, crossed lower Main Street into the Tinway Apartments parking lot, before flipping into the runoff stream of Little Lake Erie. There was a lawnmower in the truck.

Car flips into stream at the the end of Erie Avenue

NARROWSBURG, NY — At approximately 7:30 p.m. on May 20, a 2003 Blue Ford Ranger, with NY plates, traveled down Erie Avenue, crossed lower Main Street into the Tinway Apartments parking lot, before flipping into the runoff stream of Little Lake Erie. There was a lawnmower in the truck. The airbag had been deployed. 

The driver,  Frank Fippinger, 87, of Livingston Manor, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sullivan County Coroner.  The post mortem time of death was reported at 7:40 p.m. Responding agencies observed no signs of life, and no life-saving measures were taken. Police say they do not know what caused the accident.

Beach Lake Volunteer Fire Department was first called to the scene, as Narrowsburg and Lava volunteer firefighters were on a lift assist for the Tusten Volunteer Ambulance Service. Narrowsburg and Lava joined the scene following the assist. 

New York State Police were there and interviewed residents as to what they may have heard or seen.  Prestige Towing of Ferndale provided the crane for the truck extraction from the stream.  Members of the Tusten Volunteer Ambulance Service were present to transport the body.

Fippinger was taken to the Garnet Health Medical Center for pending autopsy.
