A solar eclipse, health and wellness, and art around the lake

There’s a lot going on in Lake Huntington

I hope everyone had a lovely Easter surrounded by friends, family and lots of good food! Whether you celebrated with egg hunts, delicious meals or simply some quality relaxation time, I hope it was filled with joy and happiness.

We are in the midst of spring break, and Sullivan West students return to school on Tuesday, April 9, due to give-back days.

There’s a solar eclipse coming up on April 8. It’s going to be a total solar eclipse, which means the moon will completely cover the sun, creating a moment of darkness during the day. This event is fascinating to witness, so if you have the chance to see it safely, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Remember, never look directly at the sun without proper eye protection.

Be advised the New York State Burn Ban is in effect through May 14.

Have a look at a few events and activities in our community and region:

The 2024 Health & Wellness Program will take place on Thursday, April 18 at 6 p.m. at Cochecton Volunteer Ambulance Corp, located at 70 Rte. 116 in Lake Huntington, NY. The focus will be on health and wellness, as well as disease management and prevention. The schedule includes a meet and greet and a giveaway, and beverages will be provided. Call Pat Skiba, R.N. at 475/332-2208 for more information or for questions.

There will be a penny social at the Lake Huntington Presbyterian Church on Saturday, April 27. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and calling begins at 12:30 p.m. Hot dogs and soda will be sold. You’ll find many great prices and raffles, and fun for all.

Save the date for the Plein Air Lake Huntington event on Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Step into the picturesque outdoors and unleash your creativity amidst the beauty of nature. Art lovers and artists of all levels are invited to register and be paired with Lake Huntington landowners. Artists start the day with a complimentary pastry and coffee at the registration desk on the front porch of the Arts Nest, 6692 Rte. 52 in Lake Huntington.

Artists will have exclusive access to private property around the lake. They’ll find waterfalls, landscapes, cow fields, a farm and one-of-a-kind lake views. Art supplies are available for beginners and a private escort will accompany each artist to their scenic slice of Lake Huntington to create their very own masterpiece.
