Hard to believe we’ve reached May! Memorial Day Weekend will be here before you know it and the unofficial start to summer will begin.

Here are a few upcoming events that are happening in our community and nearby towns.

The Ladies Aid of Lake Huntington thanks everyone who came and helped at their penny social—from the people who did the calling and the young people who did the running, to everyone who baked. The penny social was very successful!

The Town of Cochecton 2023 spring cleanup for Town of Cochecton residents will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 20 and 21, from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Items can be brought to the Cochecton Town Hall, County Route 116, Lake Huntington, NY.

Acceptable items include household junk; bulky waste (e.g. furniture, mattresses, carpets, etc.); iron pipes, which must be cut to four-foot lengths; drums and tanks, which must be empty and cut open or crushed; and paint or tar cans, which must be empty and dry.

DO NOT BRING full or partially full cans of paint; commercial waste; household garbage; yard waste, leaves, stumps, roots, or rocks.

NO HAZARDOUS WASTE; for example, NO petroleum products, pesticides or propane tanks. NO computers or monitors, and NO television sets (all display types). NO fluorescent bulbs/lamps.

The Town of Cochecton will accept four tires per household—regular car and truck tires at no cost; after the fourth tire, the cost will be $3 per tire. NO oversized tires will be accepted.

This program is made possible by the Sullivan County Legislature along with the Division of Public Works and Solid Waste and the Town of Cochecton.

Attention Sullivan West High School seniors! Apply now for the David F. Curreri Memorial Scholarship. You could be the lucky winner of a $3,000 scholarship. Stop at your guidance office for the application. Applications are due by Friday, May 5.

The Sullivan West Central School District budget vote is on Tuesday, May 16 from 12 noon. to 9 p.m. The locations are the Delaware Youth Center, the Tusten Public Library and the Jeffersonville Public Library (the new polling location).
