BEACH LAKE, PA — Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River (UDSRR) invites the public to help save lives by showing support for water safety on Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Day on Friday, May 18. Since 1980, there have been 68 drownings on the Upper Delaware River; however, none drowned wearing a properly fitted life jacket.
“Wearing a properly fitted life jacket when on the Delaware River or any body of water whether fishing, boating, swimming, or floating is the most important thing that residents and visitors can do to make their trip both fun and safe,” said Superintendent Kris Heister.
This annual event, hosted by the National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) serves as a fun and educational way to kick off National Safe Boating Week, May 19 to 25.
Participants are asked to take a picture of themselves in their life jacket while at work and post it to the “Ready, Set, Wear It!” Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/ReadySetWearIt) or on UDSRR Facebook page (www.facebook.com/updeNPS).
