Officer injured in combative Woodridge arrest

WOODRIDGE, NY — On August 28, 2026, Woodridge Police were called to a disturbance at the  IGA supermarket.

Police arrested Benjamin Salvay of Woodridge. Salvay, 
being combative, resisted police attempts to subdue him. As police attempted to place Salvay in a police car, Salvay kicked an officer in the face, causing injury requiring the officer to be transported to Garnet Health Catskill Medical Center for emergency treatment. 

Salvay was charged with Assault in the Second  Degree, a felony, and Resisting Arrest, a misdemeanor. Additional charges are pending.

Salvay was arraigned in front of Judge Bart Rasnick, Woodridge court, and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in leu of $40,000.00 bail, pending a September 9, 2026, court appearance.
