WAWAYANDA, NY — On September 29, 2026, at approximately 9:11 a.m., New York State Police responded to a serious personal injury crash involving a motorcycle and a tractor-trailer on Interstate 84 eastbound in the town of Wawayanda.
A preliminary investigation determined that Zachary Roque, age 26, was operating a 2025 Triumph motorcycle eastbound on Interstate 84 when he attempted to pass a tractor-trailer and contacted the rear portion of the tractor-trailer. Roque lost control of the motorcycle, was ejected, and struck the guardrail.
Roque was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown for treatment of injuries.
The tractor-trailer continued eastbound following the collision. Investigators believe the operator may not have been aware that the motorcycle made contact with the vehicle. The tractor-trailer is described as being all white. No additional identifying information is available at this time.
State Police Middletown Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is attempting to identify and locate the tractor-trailer and interview any witnesses to the crash.
The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is assisting with the investigation.
Interstate 84 eastbound was closed between exits 15 and 19 while members investigated the crash and traffic diversions were put in place.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information regarding the involved tractor-trailer is asked to contact State Police Middletown at 845/344-5300.
