LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — Back in the day about a decade ago, say sometime during the hoops season of 2015, Justin Diehl snapped a pic of the original “sports network” up in the famous, some say rather boisterously infamous, Dawg Pound at Sullivan West High School.
Just the other evening on Thursday, January 23, the latest iteration of the local high sports “broadcasting network” was back in action in the Dawg Pound bleachers. Surrounded by students, they proclaimed to the world “SWSN” as they advertised the Sullivan West Sports Network, on which folks can watch games via Hudl Fan, an app by Google Play which, according to a bit of unverified research on the internet, gets mixed reviews.
But back to the game.
The home team Lady Bulldogs of Sullivan West (6-2) dominated the visiting Livingston Manor/Roscoe Lady Wildcats (2-7) from the git-go, outpacing them in the first three frames 19-5, 9-5 and 9-4.
In the fourth period, Sullivan West let up on the gas, allowing the Lady Wildcats, led by coach Joe Clark, to post an 11-8 inning.
At the final buzzer, the home team, with Pat Donovan at the helm, posted a 20-point victory (45-25).
Top scorers for Sullivan West: Ella Herbert (21 including 3 three-pointers), Brooke Nunnari (8), Roz Passante (7) and Megan Kelly, who posted a three-pointer.
Livingston Manor/Roscoe: Kelsey Ryder (10 including 2 three-pointers), Jaida Gould 5 including a three-pointer).
Stats from the free throw line showed that both squads needed practice at the FTL—SW 5/12 (41); LM/R 2/11 (18%).
