ELDRED, NY — The Eldred Central School District varsity football team received honors from the Sullivan County Legislature on January 22, with the legislature honoring the team, school officials and coaches for a successful season.

The Yellowjackets secured the Section IX championship, breaking school records in the process, and lost in the regional championships.

The players “distinguished themselves throughout the historic 2025 season representing their home town and home county with pride, skill and honor,” reads the proclamation.

“[Through] your teamwork, together, you have accomplished a lot,” said chair of the legislature Nadia Rajsz.

“Congrats to you guys,” said legislator Matt McPhillips. “Sullivan County, no matter what school district, [has a] long history of really good sports teams.”

McPhillips had himself played sports growing up (though for Liberty, not Eldred), he said. “I know what it takes and I know how awesome that is to be a part of something like this.”
