LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — On Friday, October 18, the home team Sullivan West varsity football team posted a 48-18 win over the combined Livingston Manor/Roscoe Wildcats.
The night game was played under the lights and was illuminated in the skies above by a waxing gibbous moon.
At halftime, the capacity crowd was introduced to the Homecoming Court 2024 and legions of Red Dogs, representing the future of Sullivan West football.
Several local volunteer fire departments and EMS squads blared their emergency sirens and cranked up the lights with each home team score.
In the first frame, Sullivan West scored 28 points, and the Wildcats answered with 6; by the end of the second quarter, the score by Bulldogs 41, Livingston Manor/Roscoe 6; in the third frame, the home team failed to put points on the scoreboard, while the visitors posted a TD; in the fourth quarter, Sullivan West added another 7 to the tally while the Wildcats came up a bit short, and by the final buzzer, the Bulldogs emerged victorious at 48-18.
Scoring for Sullivan West (4-1): Adam Ernst passed for 4 TDs and Evan Ebert posted the first TD, followed by a 2-point conversion by Todd Walter. Dylan Lockwood scored the second TD with a 2-point conversion by Alec Hubert. Ebert posted the third TD with a kickoff return, and the fourth TD was posted by Ebert with a 2-point conversion by Walter. Lockwood scored the fifth TD, with Sam Lieberman kicking the extra point; and the sixth TD was posted by Seamus Johnson, with Lieberman kicking the extra point.
Scoring for Livingston Manor/Roscoe (0-2): Josh Hendrickson, Kyle Hendrickson and Mark Nieves.
For the Wildcats, this was only their second game of the season (they lost their first game to the Yellowjackets of Eldred). The young squad has been plagued by injuries, and until recently has not been able to meet the required minimum number of 12 players.
“We grabbed some modified ninth-graders to fill in the ranks,” said Wildcats coach Mike Hill. “We’re a very young and inexperienced crew, with not a lot of game experience.”
The combined Livingston Manor/Roscoe varsity football squad is led on the gridiron by three senior captains: Josh Hendrickson, Kyle Hendrickson and Logan Park.
