On October 24, 2024, the Sheriff’s Patrol was called to investigate a reported theft of materials from Schmidt’s Wholesale in Monticello.
Deputies learned that on October 17, 2024, two suspects who were working on a septic system project in Lake Kiamesha allegedly obtained construction materials using a forged check that listed the number of a closed bank account. The amount of the check was $8384.02.
After a two-week investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, the suspects found out that deputies were looking for them and turned themselves in.
Anthony Sacadura, age 55, of Kiamesha Lake and Paul Nikola, 35, of Mongaup Valley were charged with Grand Larceny 3rd degree, a felony, and the misdemeanor of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument.
They were released on their own recognizance to appear in the Village of Monticello Court on November 18, 2024.
