JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — Last March, the Sullivan West Elementary archery club went to the National Archery in the Schools (NASP) state archery tournament for the second time. This year there was a qualifying tournament held in the Sullivan West Elementary school on January 14. The students that shot the qualifying score for their grade got to go to the state NASP archery tournament in Syracuse.
From Sullivan West Elementary, 18 students attended the Syracuse tournament. One student from the club, Westin Krantz, qualified for the NASP Eastern National Bullseye tournament in Kentucky. Westin is a fifth grader at Sullivan West. He scored a 254 out of 300 (with nine 10s), earning him a fourth place finish in Syracuse.
In Kentucky, Westin placed 639 out of 2,009 archers in his class and only missed qualifying for the national tournament by 11 points with a respectable score of 244, according to coach Scott Scardino.
“Westin has practiced with purpose and dedication all season long. He has great character and represented Sullivan West with skill and precision at local, state and Eastern national tournaments this year,” said Scardino. “His goal next year is to make it all the way to the National Bullseye Tournament.”
