SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Sullivan County Shields, a nonprofit that supports active and retired law enforcement, held a reception and award ceremony for scholarship recipients earlier this year.
The aid is offered to a Sullivan County senior who plans on a law enforcement career. Students must submit an application, write an essay and attend an interview.
This year, the scholarship committee chose two students, both of whom were Monticello seniors at the time.
At the award ceremony, Hannah Titus and Anthony LaRusso introduced themselves and their guests. Each student told the audience about their reasons for their choice of career and what they hope to accomplish. Hannah intends to study criminal justice and ultimately become a New York state trooper. Anthony is interested in forensics and began attending some classes in the subject during his senior year.
After a presentation by Peter Chivaro, Shields president, a meet-and-greet was held.
