SULLIVAN COUNTY — John Hauschild, Sullivan County’s fire commissioner, announced a burn ban will go into effect March 16 through May 14. Hauschild is seeking extra fire prevention training and he predicts “a busy season.” He said they’ve already worked with FEMA to get some more training for the county firefighters. He reported two brush fires in the past two weeks and four brush fires already this year. “It kind of seems impossible, because we have snow on the ground, but our southern end of the county is very dry already,” he told the legislature on March 6.
“Please, please adhere by that, because again, you’re putting all our volunteer lives at very high risk,” he added.
