NARROWSBURG — A memorable event in Narrowsburg’s history occurred last Saturday when the boys’ basketball team played their last game ever in the school gym.
The team won’t be the Indians any more. The Narrowsburg gymnasium has seen the last of them.
The team did not disappoint the stands crammed with students, family, faculty and friends, beating Eldred Central School (ECS) by a score of 70-46, keeping hold of first place in Division V.
Before the game began, the five seniors on the team—Bruce Nober, David Curreri, Ken Emeigh, Chad Powell and Kevin Taylor—in a poignant gesture kissed the large “N” in the middle of the gym floor.
Next year, SW/NS, along with Sullivan West-Delaware Valley and Jeffersonville Youngsville schools, will merge athletic teams. The new team will be called the Bulldogs.
In the final basketball match up in the Narrowsburg gymnasium, Bruce Nober was high scorer with 26 points. Chad Powell had 21. Narrowsburg is 12-3 overall and 8-0 in the league.
Ryan Jasper of ECS was high scorer for his team, with 19 points.
“Eldred kept trying to feed the ball into the center (Jasper) and we were able to close in on him,” said Narrowsburg coach Cliff Kelly. “I suspect that Roscoe will have the same strategy. We’ll have to be ready for it.”
Narrowsburg must still face Roscoe and Livingston Manor on the road.
