Monticello students perform in all-state ensembles

ROCHESTER, NY — Congratulations are due to Monticello High School students Belle Zhou and Julia Wysokinska for their outstanding performances this past weekend in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All-State Ensembles in Rochester.

Belle was selected as a violinist in the All State Symphony Orchestra, while Julia was selected as an Alto II in the All-State Mixed Chorus. The experience gave both performers the chance to work with some of the top musicians in NY State throughout a weekend-long rehearsal that culminated in a final concert.

When asked about her experience, Belle said, “Participating in the NYSSMA All-State Symphony Orchestra was an incredible experience. I am so honored to have been chosen to play in the first violin section. Though we rigorously rehearsed for five to eight hours a day, I had a lot of fun…  I am beyond grateful for this experience of a lifetime and can’t wait to see them again in future orchestra gigs.”

Thousands of music students across NY State audition for these ensembles, and at last year’s NYSSMA Solo Festival, Belle and Julia scored 100 and 99 respectively on their prepared solo auditions.
