HONESDALE, PA - On November 21, 2024, the Honorable President Judge Janine Edwards sentenced Joan Mejiamarte to a total of 47 months to 96 months incarceration in connection to guilty pleas on two (2) separate incidents.
In the first matter, on January 31, 2024, at approximately 0550 hours, the PSP responded to a one (1) motor vehicle crash in Waymart Borough. During the crash investigation, it was determined the defendant was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. In the area of the front passenger seat, there was a large zip lock bag containing a large amount of white powder and a digital scale. Testing of the white powder revealed the bag contained 97.9 grams of cocaine.
Furthermore, medical records obtained from Geisinger medical facility revealed the defendant tested positive for cocaine, fentanyl, and cannabinoids. Attached is a copy of the complaint.
In the second matter, on August 19, 2024, while incarcerated pending disposition on the 1st matter, the defendant assaulted another inmate at the Wayne County Correctional Facility.
On November 8, 2024, the defendant entered a plea of guilty to Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine (F), DUI, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Simple Assault.
