NORTHEAST PA — The Dime Bank has once again sponsored the Personal Finance Lab and Dream Learn Pitch, partnering with Brighter Financial Futures. A competition to teach budgeting and investing has begun, and will end on April 18.
“The Dime Bank is a firm advocate of financial literacy for all, but especially for our youth. We believe that educating our students provides a strong foundation for financial success throughout their lives,” Peter Bochnovich, Dime Bank president/CEO said.
Brighter Financial Futures is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a stated mission of preparing the next generation for financial and professional success. By addressing financial literacy gaps and overcoming the “minimum wage” mindset, students learn personal finance, learn investing and budgeting through simulations, and explore entrepreneurship. There are certifications in personal finance and investing, in addition to two simulations and the competitions.
The Investing Challenge is a real-time stock market simulation used by over 70 percent of top business schools in the U.S., a Dime Bank spokesperson said. The personal finance lab offers a finance curriculum with lessons, assignments and grading.
During the competition, students participate at the classroom, county and state levels, “gaining valuable financial skills while showcasing their talents,” the spokesperson said.
