MONTICELLO, NY — More Monticello High School students than ever before have earned the New York State Seal of Biliteracy, thanks in part to the district’s ongoing efforts to expand opportunities for multilingual learners.
This year’s increase in recipients is largely due to the addition of a Spanish for Native Speakers course. The class is designed to build upon students’ existing language skills—supporting them as they refine their literacy, academic vocabulary and cultural understanding in Spanish. With this added support, more students were able to meet the rigorous requirements for the seal of biliteracy.
“Monticello Central School District is proud of these students’ accomplishments,” a press release states. “Their achievement reflects not only personal commitment and academic excellence but also the district’s broader goal of celebrating linguistic diversity and preparing students for success in a global society.”
