Allyson Whitney Foundation announces charity entry spots for two Abbott World Marathon majors

Seeking charity runners for Cape Town, South Africa and Sydney, Australia

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — The Allyson Whitney Foundation (AWF), a Sullivan County–based nonprofit supporting young adults with rare cancers, is thrilled to announce that it has secured 15 highly coveted charity entry spots for the 2026 Cape Town Marathon, taking place May 24, 2026, the newest candidate race in the Abbott World Marathon Majors (AWMM) series. The Foundation also confirmed its return to the 2026 Sydney Marathon, scheduled for August 30, 2026, with additional exclusive charity entries available for interested runners.

Cape Town and Sydney represent the next wave of AWMM candidate events, drawing significant global attention as runners strive to earn provisional stars and work toward the eventual 9-star medal. With increased demand and limited general entry availability, especially following Cape Town’s unexpected 2025 cancellation and mass deferrals, charity entries remain one of the only guaranteed ways to secure a place at these landmark international races.

“Running with a charity like ours transforms your race into something bigger,” said Barbara Strong, AWF Founder. “Every mile supports a young adult facing a rare cancer diagnosis—someone navigating emotional strain, financial hardship, and the isolation that often comes with rare disease.”

The Allyson Whitney Foundation provides its signature “Life Interrupted Grants” to young adults (ages 16–36) undergoing treatment for rare cancers. These grants help offset the overwhelming financial burdens of a diagnosis—covering living expenses, transportation, fertility preservation, medical bills, and other essential needs—allowing recipients to focus on healing during the most challenging moments of their lives.

By joining Team Allyson Whitney for Cape Town or Sydney, runners not only secure a premium race entry but become part of a dedicated community that raises critical funds and awareness for young adults battling rare cancers.

Interested runners should contact barbara@allysonwhitney.org or shannon@allysonwhitney.org for details on fundraising commitments, entry procedures, and available spots for both 2026 races.
