William “Bill” P. Thompson, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away on April 5, 2024 at Garnet Health Medical Center - Catskills, Harris, NY.
He was born in Greeley, PA on February 29, 1952, the son of the late Alex and Evelyn (Hess) Thompson. He was 72 years old.
Bill was a retired truck driver for the NYSDOT. He was the past chief and a 50-year member of the Lackawaxen Township Vol. Fire Dept.
Bill was the widower of the late Christine “Christy” R. (Weber) Thompson; they were married for 44 years. She was the love of his life. After losing Christy, he continued to mow his lawns; he purchased his favorite car, a Ford Mustang; and turned all his love and attention to his dog Savannah and until recently never missed a fire call or meeting in Lackawaxen.
Survived by his niece Hope Starr and her husband Brian of Lake Huntington, NY; his sisters Julie and Millie; his brother John; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews; and great-great-nieces and-nephews and cousins, including Vickie Foy.
Bill is predeceased by his wife Christy and his brother Neil Thompson.
A special thanks to nephew Charlie, cousin Vickie Foy and caretaker Michele for all the help in the last few months.
His niece Hope and Brian Starr will host a Firematic Service and Luncheon that will be held on Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m. at the Lackawaxen Township Volunteer Fire Department on Route 590, Lackawaxen, PA. Phone 570/685-7330.
