Michael Anton Powch, of Glen Spey, NY passed away on November 24, 2011, Thanksgiving Day. He was 89.

Mr. Powch was born on October 23, 1922 to the late Anton Powch and the late Jawdokia, in Lutscki, Galizia, Ukraine.

He graduated with a degree in surveying in 1944 before fleeing Ukraine during Soviet occupation. He earned a degree in forestry from the University of Munich, Germany in 1948 and studied Civil Engineering in Graz, Austria, where he met his wife. They married in 1963. Mr. Powch enjoyed a 20-year career in Civil Engineering at the Port of Authority of New York and New Jersey. He retired in 1988 and enjoyed 23 years of retirement with his wife in Glen Spey.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Juliana Powch; daughters Dr. Irene Powch and Oksana Charla; son-in-law Thomas Charla; and grandchildren Katie, Mikie and Micah.

He is predeceased by his sister, Marika.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 28 at St. Volodymyr’s Ukrainan Catholic Church, Glen Spey, with a liturgy mass with Rev. Yaroslav Kostyk officiating. Burial was in Glen Spey Cemetery, Glen Spey.
