GARRISON, NY — The fourth annual Showing Up: Perspectives on Cancer in-person event will take place Oct. 3-5 at the Holy Mountain Franciscan Retreat Center in Garrison, NY. Organized by the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization Showing Up: Perspectives on Cancer, founded by cancer warrior Tim Sohn, this event offers a safe space for patients, survivors and supporters to share their stories, connect with others who have been through similar journeys, and feel supported. There will be fun, too.

The event, which encourages attendees to Get Out And Thrive (GOAT), focuses on the theme of “Education & Inspiration for Healing, Hope and Resilience.”
“I created this event right as the world was starting to come out of the pandemic. I thought,  what if we created an event that provided a safe space in person for patients, survivors and supporters to come together, share their stories and feel understood. During the event, there will be laughter, smiles, tears, hugs, all the emotions. But most of all, attendees will leave with a whole new family that gets them,” said Sohn, who started sharing his story of living with chronic leukemia in 2021. Sohn was originally diagnosed almost 19 years ago.
The schedule includes:
Inspirational and educational speakers and panelists:
Keynote: James Kiesewetter (stage 3 cancer survivor)
Russ Hedge (melanoma survivor)
Harriet Cabelly (non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor)
Zoraida Morales (chronic myeloid leukemia thriver)
Sayen Gates (caregiver)
Tim Sohn (founder of Showing Up: Perspectives On Cancer)
Nancie Steinberg (breast cancer and CML survivor)
Andrea Sanchez (cancer supporter)

Small groups for attendees to share their cancer stories and receive support from other attendees in a safe space.
The fourth-ever In Person "Showing Up: Perspectives On Cancer" show hosted by Tim Sohn, and the guest is Savio Clemente, Stage 3 cancer survivor, who was guest at the first event. His cancer has since come back, and he has new perspectives to share.

Authors' panel from the book "Perspectives On Invisible Illnesses”: Tim Sohn, James Kiesewetter and Andrea Sanchez.
Games (it’s important to focus on happiness even in a cancer journey).
A Get Out And Thrive awards ceremony, and more.
The event takes place on Friday, Oct. 3 (Arrive at 3 pm or after), Saturday, Oct. 4 (10 am to 4 pm) and Sunday, Oct. 5 (10 am to 3 pm) in Garrison, N.Y. The official program starts on Saturday at 10 am. There will be an unofficial meetup up Friday night.
All proceeds from the event go to cover expenses for the event. Any extra funds will go directly into the general fund for the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Showing Up: Perspectives On Cancer.
