Woman pronounced dead after Thompson fire

TOWN OF THOMPSON, NY — On Tuesday July 28, Monticello Firefighters were dispatched at 12:38 p.m. to a residential structure fire at 38 Terrace Drive in the Melody Lake Subdivision in the Town of Thompson.

Upon arrival at 12:48 p.m., Engine 22-14 reported a working structure fire in a residential split ranch with possible entrapment.  Mutual Aid was immediately requested for Rock Hill Engine and Manpower and Town of Bethel Fast Team.  Additional mutual aid was requested from Liberty, Fallsburg and Woodridge to scene and Port Jervis to Stand-by in Monticello’s station.

Monticello Firefighters on initial attack were able to extricate a female resident from the structure. The woman who resides at that address was pronounced dead at the scene by Sullivan County Coroner Alan Kesten. 

Also assisting Monticello at the scene were Empress EMS, Senior Care EMS, Sullivan County Bureau of Fire Investigators, Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department, Town of Thompson Code Enforcement and NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control Investigators. NYSEG was on scene for a power cut.

Monticello firefighters were back in service at 4:25 PM. Investigators returned to the scene on Wednesday. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
