What’s in a name?

The topic of naming our public park in Narrowsburg has recently come up before the town board.

As a past elected official, who contributed close to a quarter-century of volunteering in the Town of Tusten, I would like to suggest a name for the park:

Volunteers Park.

Volunteerism is a crucial component for the health and well-being of our small town.

Whether you choose to volunteer your time as a member of various civic committees and boards, or serve as a firefighter, an ambulance driver, beautification personnel, Tusten youth coordinator, library volunteer or a Meals on Wheels driver, giving of yourself and your time to make our town a better place to live is a standard to which we should all aspire.

To name our public park for our past, present and—given the next generation—future volunteers, is to honor the concept of volunteerism as well as to give credit to those individuals who have made this town a better place to live for everyone.
