HAWLEY, PA — Madeleine Barry of The Country Gardeners asked the children of the Bookworm Friendship Garden Club about what gardening and the club mean to them. Their responses are below.

The benefits of gardening to me are that I get a break from being indoors, and to get out and see nature. The Bookworm Friendship Garden Club means a lot to me because these nice ladies are volunteering their time for me and everyone else to plant all sorts of vegetables and flowers and more.
My favorite part of the Bookworm Friendship Garden Club is planting flowers and tomatoes, especially eating the tomatoes!
We look forward to summer every year because we can learn more about planting hands-on at the Hawley library. And even take the food to go.
Natalia
The benefits of going to the Bookworm Friendship Garden Club are that I learn how to plant, so that I can maybe learn how to plant trees to help the Earth. It’s special because this is my second or third year doing it, and I’m going to be doing it a lot throughout the summer. My favorite thing to do here is to plant things, and hang out with new kids and become friends.
Daierius
The Bookworm Friendship Garden Club is special to me because I’m getting to know lots of other people and how to plant things.
There are still openings available to join the Bookworm Friendship Garden Club, which is for children aged four to 12. It is free of charge, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Register in person or call the Hawley library at 570/226-4620. (Check out the first planting at riverreporter.com/stories/bookworm-friendship-garden-club-holds-first-planting,265314.)
