The flaming foliage has mostly fallen; the sunlight is fading with every passing day; temperatures are dropping ever downward and winter is whispering in the bare branches silhouetted throughout the Upper Delaware River region. As sweater weather turns to coat-time, it’s tempting to remain inside and recline in a cozy nook with your favorite book, or curl up next to that glowing woodstove. After all, what does nature have to offer at this time of year?
The answer, dear reader, is the following: quite a lot for those willing to get out there and engage! If you have your doubts, set them aside on November 15 and join me at the Tusten-Cochecton Branch of the Western Sullivan Public Library (WSPL) in Narrowsburg, NY at 1 p.m. for an awareness-raising walk through the natural surrounds of this cherished community resource.
The walk is one of several photography workshops offered to anyone interested in enhancing their photographic skills. My session will focus (pun intended) on tuning in to the sensory aspects of the natural world in the November landscape, while turning our cameras upon what we encounter during the approximately 15-minute outdoor foray.
The adventure doesn’t end there, though! Afterward, we will return indoors and ply our pens in a simple and collaborative creative process to craft a poem or free-form reflection of our shared outdoors experience.
Participants of all ages should bring their smartphone or digital camera and an eagerness to explore our natural wonders in images and words.
For more information on the workshop series, contact WSPL Adult Program Coordinator Ciera Moore at 845/482-4350 or visit www.wsplonline.libcal.com/event/15432527. For questions about my session, “The Photo Poem: Collaborative Creating with Lens and Pen,” email Sandy@HeronsEye.com.
