Oberacker responds to Hochul budget

Posted

Recently, Kathy Hochul unveiled her record-high $260 billion budget. Once again, the governor is paying lip service to the issues New Yorkers care about, but providing no meaningful solutions.

New York State is one of the hardest places in America to start a business, and Hochul plays more word games by claiming not to raise corporate tax rates.

Fact-check time: She’s renewing tax increases that were set to expire, at a time when New York’s combined state and local taxes are among the highest in the nation, and our small businesses are suffering.

When it comes to our kids, her investment in childcare is a good thing, but how can the governor talk about investing in kids when New York spends more money per student than any other state in the country, and yet only half of our school kids are proficient in English by the eighth grade?

Kathy Hochul is talking a good game, but leaving our children, our small businesses, farms and families out in the cold.

I am about results for New Yorkers. That’s why I’ve sponsored or cosponsored bipartisan legislation, including tax breaks for our farmers, universal meals for our schoolchildren and a Ratepayer Bill of Rights to hold utilities accountable, just to name a few.

Together we can make New York affordable, and not just talk about it. Now let’s get to work.

Sen. Peter Oberacker (R, C)
Schenevus, NY

Oberacker, Hochul budget
