Shawn Wiles and Richard Benjamin are competing for a spot on the Town of Thompson board.
"Serving my community has always been one of my highest priorities. Throughout the years, I have strived to be part of the solution and not part of the problem. Giving back has never been about politics—it’s about helping neighbors, friends and those of us who are less fortunate, strengthening our community, and making the Town of Thompson a healthy and vibrant place to live, work and raise a family.
"Born and raised in Monticello, I graduated from Monticello High School in 1976. After establishing my home and raising my family in Woodridge, NY, I became actively involved in public education by serving as trustee, vice president and president on the Fallsburg Board of Education.
"Professionally, I have devoted more than three decades to Monticello Raceway, where I currently serve as Director of Facilities and Racing.
"Monticello and its neighboring communities are in the midst of major transitions—some we can guide, others we must adapt to. Our job is to continue addressing every issue brought to the board with disciplined oversight and a clear focus on the community’s long-term well-being.
"The current town board lacks balance; the supervisor’s input is often overlooked and dismissed. The town needs a more well rounded, collaborative board that gives every member a meaningful voice for the best interest of the community and not be ignored.
"I am asking for the opportunity to continue that commitment to public service as your Town Councilman."
"I am a a 66-year-old, life-long resident. I retired in December 2025 after 23 years as the town’s elected Superintendent of Highways. I also served as President of the State Superintendents Highway Association. In January 2026, I was appointed to a vacancy on the board. I am now running to finish the unexpired term ending in December 2027.
"I have always been about good infrastructure, economic development and low taxes. The Town of Thompson has a very strong team of management and hard working employees that provide great service to our community. I would like to remain on the Town Board to contribute to that good work in the future."
